Living in Wallington area information and guide

Wallington area overview

Wallington in deep south London was famous for most of its history as a centre of lavender oil production up until about the time of the First World War. Lavender and herb growing were very prominent in the area in Victorian times earlier, and extensive fields of lavender were to be seen in the wider area. this is commemorated today with a big sculpture called''English Lavender' in the town centre.

Following the development of two sets of luxury flats near the train station Wellington has had something of a boom with an influx of restaurants and retailers, albeit fairly generic high street brands. The station takes commuters into Victoria in about 40 minutes. Being far from the centre there is plenty of open space including Mellows Park, Beddington Park and the Grange Gardens.
