Living in Purley area information and guide

Purley area overview

Purley in deepest south London is a residential suburb which stretches into the North Downs. It's a part of outer London which expanded in the inter war period. In 2002 Purley topped the list of Britain's most affluent suburbs. The reason for it's affluence is the ubiquity of exclusive gated estates, with large houses and open countryside yet only less than 30 minutes from central London making it attractive to people working in the City.
