Living in North Kensington area information and guide

North Kensington area overview

North Kensington in west London sits between Notting Hill Gate and Harrow Road. This area used to be called Notting Hill but in recent years this identity has now been appropriated by the super-rich area to the south which used to be called Holland Park and Notting Hill Gate.(North Kensington as its now known) was once an area well known for its slum housing but housing prices have now risen and the area is considered an exclusive and upscale spill over zone from the south.

The area has had a colourful history being the epicentre of the Notting Hill race riots of 1950's, the start of the Notting Hill Carnival and location for most of the scenes in the film Notting Hill. Though Ladbroke Grove is the area's main thoroughfare, its best known street is Portobello Road with its street market. North Kensington also has the largest Moroccan population in England.
