Lower Edmonton in north London is a fairly deprived district dominated by medium to high density residential development much of which is in the social sector. In the second half of the twentieth century, Edmonton was transformed from a white, working class industrial suburb into a less affluent multicultural area. In 2008 part of the area was identified as having one of the highest numbers of working age adults living on state benefits in the UK.
