Living in Croydon area information and guide

Croydon area overview

Croydon in south London is a large suburban centre in its own right. It has become so important that it has one of the largest shopping districts outside of central London and a developed night time economy. The area has suffered a bit of a bad reputation because of the abundance of dodgy 60's architecture but in the last decade it has turned into a real development hotspot. Since 2000 Croydon has been home to London's only Tram line which connects the central and west Croydon to Beckenham, New Addington and Wimbledon. Croydon has lots of A-list notable former residents, particularly musical ones including Kate Moss, Amy Winehouse and Adele.
