Living in Becontree area information and guide

Becontree area overview

Becontree in East London is a large estate built in the 1920's and at the time was the largest public housing estate in the world. The huge new population soon attracted the chemicals company May & Baker and Ford to open operations nearby. The area developed it's own distinct industrial-cultural heritage and has brass bands and pipers groups. Nowadays its an area with plenty of identical family housing generally in good repair, not too shabby. It's well connected, with its own District Line station getting residents into Tower Gateway in under 30 minutes.
